Stanton Comes Up Short Against Wolfson

The Stanton College Preparatory School Blue Devils faced the Samuel W. Wolfson High School Wolfpack on Friday in a game that was highly anticipated by both sides. In the end, Stanton came up short, losing by a score of 44-0. Aiming for their first win, Stanton travelled to Wolfon, who was celebrating their  homecoming. Leading up to the game, stakes grew even higher as Wolfson and Stanton students traded off field comments online.

Wolfson set the tone early, returning the opening kickoff into Stanton's own territory leaving senior kicker Anderson Eller to have to make the lone tackle in the open field.

Stanton’s defense could not contain the Wolfpack run game as junior running back Tyler Terry and junior quarterback Aidan Nicholls were the only two to receive the ball on Wolfson’s first drive. After a fourth down conversion from a quarterback sneak, Terry exploded through the line to put the first points on the board.

As the Blue Devil’s prepared for their opening drive, a muffed kick on Stanton’s behalf allowed for Wolfson to pick back up right where they left off.

After a first down pick up by junior running back Daniel Davisson to bring the Wolfpack into the redzone, points looked guaranteed. However, after a combined sack on fourth down, Stanton’s offense took the field for the first time of the night.

The Blue Devils first drive resulted in a punt after their run game was completely shut out by the Wolfpack.

In the second quarter Wollfson adjusted their game plan throwing for the first time in the game, as Nicholls passed to junior receiver Ryan Horton for a twenty yard touchdown to make it 22-0.

Stanton aimed to follow Wolfson’s lead in adapting to the passing game on their next drive. Senior quarterback Nabil Boulos tossed a deep pass to Eller for a 40 yard gain to bring the Blue Devil’s into the redzone for the first time of the night. A costly false start pushed Stanton back to Wolfson’s seven yard line.

On fourth and goal, Stanton’s Coach Mike Healy aimed to repeat previous success, drawing up a play for Boulos to pass to Eller again. Boulos rolled out right due to a heavy Wolfpack blitz and threw to the back of the endzone, but Eller was unable to come down with it resulting in another Stanton turnover.

To open the second half, Stanton continued their struggles with yet another muffed kick. The ball was recovered by Wolfson, setting their offense on Stanton's thirty yard line.

Wolfson dominated the line of scrimmage with three more rushing touchdowns coming in the third quarter with two of those coming from Terry to cap off his three touchdown game.

The fourth quarter was scoreless as Wolfson had removed most starters from the game. Stanton continued to make mistakes as a botched snap on a punt led to a turnover on downs.

Wolfson moves on to face Crescent City High School next week to continue their winning streak. Stanton will continue to aim for their first win next week against the Englewood Rams.
