The Stanton College Preparatory School Blue Devils Varsity Football team remained winless Friday night with a 46-0 away loss against the now 3-4 Englewood High School Rams.
The Rams set the tone early in the first quarter, scoring on the opening play of the game. Senior receiver Disean Hires caught a touchdown pass from junior quarterback Terrence Ford giving the Rams a 7-0 lead with just seventeen seconds into the game.
After a punt on Stanton’s first drive, the Rams looked to strengthen their lead, but after sophomore cornerback Daniel Williams intercepted an Englewood pass intended for Hires, the Blue Devils found themselves on the Rams own twenty.
Despite the momentum gained from the defensive stride, the Blue Devil’s offense could not find their form. Stanton, being held to a fourth down, missed their 35 yard field goal attempt to put their first points on the board.
The Ram’s offense was near perfect coming off their turnover on the former drive. Their next two drives resulted in touchdowns with one coming from a reception from senior receiver Rashaud Clarkand and one coming from a quarterback sneak by Ford.
On the Ram’s next offensive drive, points looked promising after they found themselves on Stanton's own five yard line. However, due to a combined effort by the Blue Devils defensive line, the Rams turned the ball over after a fourth down attempt.
The Blue Devils next offensive was forced to a three and out with the punt being returned for another Rams touchdown. The return by junior cornerback Julio Valcarcel brought the score to 26-0 and closed out the first half.
The second half was no different story for both teams. The Rams defensive line continued their dominance. Stanton senior quarterback Nabil Boulos was sacked four times in the second half receiving little help from his offensive line. Englewood’s defense was led by freshman standout Kieth Forbes who ended the game with three sacks.
Stanton has defensive standouts as well with both senior tackle Reuben Amarh and junior linebacker Christian Davis having tackles for losses.
Despite the defensive efforts, the Blue Devils were no match for the Rams down the stretch. The Rams found the endzone three more times in the second half bringing the final score to 46-0.
Englewood moves on to face Fernandina Beach High School (2-6) next week at home. Stanton, now entering their homecoming week, will prepare to face the undefeated Lafayette High School Hornets.
