The Stanton College Preparatory School Blue Devils varsity girls basketball team was defeated 59-43 by Wolfson High School Wolfpack at home Tuesday night.

“The first half was kind of chaotic,” said freshman gaurd Charlee Evoniuk. “We just need to work as a team and work on our passes.”

The first quarter got off to a wild start, with both teams shooting very well from beyond the arc. Senior Stanton point guard Skylar Wildrick drained three shots from three-point land in the first half alone.

“I got great passes from my teammates and just put ‘em up,” said Wildrick. She led the team in scoring, finishing with four three-pointers and 16 points.

Stanton trailed by nine points at halftime, but began the third quarter on a 9-2 run, cutting the lead to a mere two points. Wolfson immediately answered with a 13-2 run, and held a double digit lead for the remainder of the game.

The fourth quarter saw Wolfson slowly pull away from a fatigued Stanton team. Turnovers plagued Stanton all night, and helped Wolfson end the game on a 9-3 run.

“We all have a whole lot to improve,” said senior forward Connor Kuhn. With the victory, Wolfson improves to 2-5 on the season, while Stanton drops to 1-2. The Blue Devils’ next game is at Yulee High School on Dec. 2.
