Stanton Cruises Past Atlantic Coast

The Stanton College Preparatory School varsity boys soccer team easily defeated Atlantic Coast High School 6-1 in a home game Monday night.
“We were solid. They had some defensive issues, and we capitalized on that,” said junior midfielder Zachary Wagner.
Stanton got off to a fast start and never looked back. Junior midfielder Jake Faltemier started off the scoring with a header in the fifth minute off of a corner kick from senior striker Mahmoud Elbatouty. Faltemier scored again moments later, in the twelfth minute.
“I thought they were pretty good shots, but kind of gimme goals because the defenders were not in the right place,” said Faltemier. He was assisted by a pass from Elbatouty, who scored a goal of his own in the nineteenth minute on a penalty kick.
Junior striker Brandon Diaz put on an offensive clinic in the second half, scoring three goals in a twenty minute span.
“It was nice to be back on the scoring sheet. I’m glad to be helping the team out,” said Diaz.
Stanton’s defense had another solid night, holding Atlantic Coast to just a handful of scoring opportunities. The only time Atlantic Coast managed to score was a Stanton own goal in the sixtieth minute.
“We were ready to play,” said head Coach Steve Stone. According to Coach Stone, Stanton was motivated by a poor first half performance at Terry Parker High School the previous week. Stone said he tried to focus on not underestimating the opposing team and stressing the importance of playing hard even when the opponent is not great.
Stanton improved to 3-0-1 on the season, while Atlantic Coast dropped to 1-4. Stanton’s next game is at home against Ed White High School on Dec. 2.
