The Stanton College Preparatory School varsity boys soccer team secured its 10th victory of the season Tuesday night with a 6-1 home victory over Paxon School for Advanced Studies.
The Blue Devils dominated the time of possession and had ample scoring opportunities but struggled to capitalize for much of the first half.
"We started off a little slow, and I knew we needed a first goal to get the team going," said junior striker Miles Andre.
Andre ended the scoring drought in the 21st minute when he single handedly took the ball 60 yards down the right sideline and scored an unassisted goal. Less than a minute later, junior striker Brandon Diaz added another score when he headed a cross from junior midfielder Jake Faltemier into the back of the net.
Paxon answered in the 32nd minute with a goal of its own, cutting the lead to a single goal at the half.
"We had too many chances. It should have been a higher score at half," said Stanton Head Coach Steve Stone.
The second half saw Stanton pick up right where it left off at halftime, dominating in time of possession and scoring opportunities. Faltemier opened up the second half scoring with a goal in the 55th minute, followed almost immediately by a goal from senior midfielder Mahmoud Elbatouty in the 56th minute.
“We did well finishing in the second half and we put the game away early,” said junior midfielder Zachary Wagner.
The scoring continued as Faltemier added another goal in the 64th minute and senior striker Jackson Spencer capped off a prolific offensive half with an unassisted goal from the right side in the 66th minute.
“Anytime you beat Paxon is a great day,” said Coach Stone. “Beating our rivals is always a fun night.”
Stanton improves to 10-3-1, while Paxon falls to 6-6-1. Stanton now waits to learn which team it will face in the upcoming Gateway Conference Tournament, which begins on Jan. 14.
