The Devil’s Advocate endorses Craig McFarland as the Student Government Association President for the 2019–2020 school year. McFarland is the most qualified candidate for SGA President due to his leadership experience, respectability, confidence and love for Stanton College Preparatory School. In the SGA Presidential Debate, McFarland demonstrated a devotion to and responsibility for Stanton affairs. He has developed the necessary leadership experience for this position as President and former Treasurer of Artistree Club, Senior Vice President of Law Club, Vice President of American Sign Language Club and head of the French competitors of Viva la Lengua.

If elected SGA President, McFarland will focus on uniting the student body as a whole. With connections to students in each class, including the incoming class of 2023, McFarland would be able to ensure students of all grade levels are being represented in SGA. McFarland also plans to unite the student body and administration. After spending two summers organizing textbooks at Stanton and accumulating over 100 volunteer hours, McFarland has developed a close relationship with the administration, and will use that to establish open communication between the student body and administration.

McFarland intends to use the position of SGA President to enact various plans at Stanton. As a devoted student at the top of his class, McFarland is able to empathize with students of both scholarly and social groups. At a school where success is the normality, McFarland would like to reward students who do well in school; such including ice cream parties or certificates. Another idea of McFarland’s is resurrecting SpringFest. Springfest, a talent show that occurred prior to WinterFest, would be intended to help alleviate stress from students preparing for final exams. Additional plans McFarland has for Stanton are:, McFarland are to expand Mental Health Week by promoting good mental health year-round, expand club fair, improve school dance venues, and create an online gallery for students to showcase their own art.

Not only is McFarland a qualified candidate based on academics and participation, he also has a passion for the school. Since the beginning of his Stanton career in ninth grade, McFarland has grown to view the school  as a second home. Participation in clubs such as Multicultural Club has led to him developing a deeper connection to the school, a place where he can embrace his own identity.

If elected, McFarland will need to find adequate funding for projects such as better school dance venues and rewarding students. He will also need to prioritize in order to successfully juggle his different club officer positions with his role as SGA President.

McFarland plans to connect with all students if elected, including underclassmen and administration, to improve Stanton. His extensive service in volunteering and his time as an officer for a variety of academic clubs has shaped him into a well-qualified leader with plans to serve the students of Stanton. For these reasons, the Devil’s Advocate endorses Craig McFarland for SGA President.
