Devil’s Advocate: What middle school did you go to?
Jillian Williams: Landon.
D.A.: What made you decide to run?
J.W.: Well, it’s kind of my thing, running for president is the goal; like actual president.
D.A.: Did you run in middle school then?
J.W.: In middle school? No, because my best friend ran, so I helped her and I was sick the day they handed out paperwork, so they didn’t give me paperwork.
D.A.: What do you think sets you above the other candidates?
J.W.: Sets me above them? I don’t know, they’re pretty cool. Well, I’m really good at talking to people. This probably isn’t a good example, but I have a really loud voice, and I’m a pretty outspoken person, I am friends with a lot of the people that don’t have a lot of other friends, like a lot of the lesser known people. So, while they can have a perspective for their friend group, I’ve kind of got a perspective for everybody, because I just know a lot of people from different friend groups.
D.A.: How are you trying to appeal to the freshmen?
J.W.: To appeal to them? See my awesome poster outside the door? I’m so proud of it, it’s a Napoleon Dynamite joke. It says “Vote for Pedro” and then I crossed out “Pedro” and wrote “Jillian,” and it’s bomb. We’re just trying to be chill.
D.A.: What ideas do you have that you think your class could benefit from?
J.W.: Well I want to do a lot of polls, so any decision, activity, or something that we’re planning, I want to be able to make sure that I get everybody’s view on what they want to happen. So, the goal is to get everybody’s opinion and do an activity that everybody has a say in so that everybody enjoys it, that way we can all get to know each other.
D.A.: Do you have any ideas of what types of activities you would want to do?
J.W.: You know Devil’s Derby? Okay, not Devil’s Derby, but something kind of similar where we have a cool challenge or a fun game that everyone can get competitive in and hyped about.
D.A.: What do you enjoy about being in a leadership position?
J.W.: I like being able to meet more people and really encompass everybody. Because when you’re in a leadership position, I like being able to ask people for their opinions. I did journalism for Ms. Terry in middle school, and it was so fun, being able to help people do things, and just meet all the people around the school that I wouldn’t normally get to talk to.
