The Devil’s Advocate endorses Casey Peterson for Stanton College Preparatory School Student Government Association (SGA) president for the 2018–2019 year. Peterson’s performance in the SGA debate and the interview that followed revealed her true leadership qualities. Peterson’s previous experience as a class officer, as an SGA secretary, and as a captain on the girls lacrosse team demonstrates that she has the experience and the skills necessary to effectively represent Stanton’s student body. Peterson’s involvement in leadership positions allows her to connect well with others by providing her with the opportunity to consider a vast variety of voices and opinions.

As SGA president, it will be Peterson’s job to communicate between Stanton administration and the student body. Peterson has presented many ideas in her platform that demonstrate her preparedness to assume this role. These ideas include intensive use of various social media platforms and the establishment of meetings that will provide the student body with updates.

In addition to increasing communication between administrators and students, Peterson plans to bolster unity between the classes. One of Peterson’s ideas involves the arrangement of greater community outreach through the creation of a collaborative calendar of events, on which students could suggest activities outside of school for other students to participate in. Another unique idea Peterson presented in her platform is a program to help students who are struggling emotionally. She intends to create a protocol for teachers who notice their students are struggling with mental health. These plans show that she is prepared to create change in the Stanton community as president.

However, if elected, Peterson will need to improve upon synthesizing her own ideas with the desires of the student body. Additionally, she has strong ideas and will have to consistently produce more ideas like these throughout the 2018-2019 year.

Peterson possesses the skills necessary to lead Stanton’s SGA as president. Not only does she have previous experience leading her class as an officer and the school as SGA secretary, but she connects very well with the student body and is passionate about representing her peers. Her plans for the 2018–2019 year show that she is ready to assume this position. For these reasons the Devil’s Advocate endorses Casey Peterson for SGA president.
