SALMA DREW | FEB. 22, 2018 | Q&A

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (SCPDA) — With the Miss Stanton Pageant around the corner, the pressure is on for all the young women who are participating to represent Stanton. To understand their hopes for the pageant and what they have taken away from it, Devil’s Advocate interviewed them and got their side of the story.

DEVIL’S ADVOCATE: Why did you decide to run for Miss Stanton?

REGAN HATCHER: I decided to run for Miss Stanton because I think it would be a fun experience, I wanted to get out of my shell, and I think I would represent Stanton well.

DA: If you win Miss Stanton, how are you going to juggle daily school life with this new title?

RH: I will find a way to incorporate it by dividing my time into each thing that I do more.

DA:  What are some talents you have that separate you from the other candidates?

RH: My talent is piano, and I know there are two other people who are playing piano, but I think they are doing a more classical song. My song is "Beauty and the Beast," and I think it is something that everyone knows and can relate to.

DA: What causes are you passionate about?

RH: I am passionate about human kindness. Our theme here is Ubuntu. My platform is about abuse in teen relationships, so I am passionate about everyone being respected and not harmed.

DA: What has been the most rewarding part of this competition so far?

RH: The most rewarding part has been hanging out with the girls. I like to hang out with them and get to know them better, because they are fun and cool.

DA: Aside from yourself, which candidate do you feel should have the title Miss Stanton?

RH: I think that Zahria should, because she is really nice and kind, and I think that she would represent Stanton well, too.

DA: How are you a role model for the underclassmen?

RH: I’m a role model because I actually have a lot of underclassmen friends. I try to make friends with people in every grade level, and I know them and understand them, and I think I would be a good voice for them.

DA: What do you hope to get out of competing in Miss Stanton?

RH: I hope to not take people’s outside appearance and mistake it for their inside appearance. I’m not going to lie, I underestimated some of these girls. Now that I actually know them, I think that they are actually really good and cool.

DA: What does the title Miss Stanton mean to you?

RH: The title Miss Stanton means that I am a representative of Stanton, so I always have to be a good role model for Stanton.

DA: How do you think the title Miss Stanton differs from other titles of recognition at Stanton?

RH: It differs because Miss Stanton represents all parts of Stanton. She has to be well-rounded, like incorporated in some sports, clubs and a lot of things, and they represent everything, like academics and a social life too.

DA: What would you say to underclassmen who might one day want to try out for Miss Stanton?

RH: I would say it is definitely fun and it would help them come out of their shell more. They wouldn’t be shy, and they would want to help people more afterwards.
